Lambafell is a 500 acre farm on the south coast of Iceland, under a magnificent glacier, facing the Atlantic ocean with no land visible for thousands of miles. Lambafell has its own mountain, 600 feet high, its own river and ample hot water, geothermal energy.
Lambafell is 150 km from the capital of Iceland, on the south coast. An easy road brings you safely to the house, highway 1 passed through the farm. The international airport is 40 km away from the capital with connecting flights every day to several cities in Europe as well as USA and from spring of 2008, Canada. The drive is an easy one, brings you through several villages, the closest being the village of Hvolsvollur, 40 km west of Lambafell, about 30 minutes drive, with all the services for the community, shopping, restaurants, bank and schools up to level 10.
The area in general is a popular tourist area, amazing trips on glaciers and adventures into the interior of Iceland. Smaller airfields are only few km away. Salmon fishing is popular in the area.
Directly north of Lambafell is a glacier, Eyjafjallajökull, rising almost 1700 meters above sea level making a spectacular background for the farm location. On the farm is a new 7000 square foot amazing log house, made out of Douglas Fir from BC in Canada. This log house serves people and corporations with tastes for the best. Only pictures can describe to you what can not experience in person. You enter through a grand main entrance, from there you go into a sitting room area with dome shaped roof almost 3 levels high. On one side of the sitting room is enormous kitchen, with a Morice gas and electricity stove that any top quality restaurant would be proud of. From the kitchen you walk out on a large platform, patio and towards a large 12 person hot tub with ample fresh flowing water. All the area around the hot tub is tastefully decorated with Iceland rock. From the sitting room you enter the coniac room towards the west side of the house and the dining room towards the east side with beautiful views. Master bedroom with bathroom and a large walk in closet is on the main floor, very spacious with a large balcony facing sunrise toward east. From the sitting room you walk up a enormous log stair, T shaped, with each arm reaching east and west end of the second level. There are four very spacious double bedrooms with bathrooms on the upper level with sitting area between the rooms. In front of the sitting room there is a large platform facing south, tastefully decorated with Icelandic granite, nature is allowed to be unspoiled, unique as it is. From the kitchen you walk into a building joining the main house with a garage and a 3 bedroom apartment above. In the joining building you have steam room, toilet, wash room and supply room. The garage is very large, for 2 large cars and one average size. Upstairs is a sitting room, kitchen, bathroom and 3 bedrooms, making ample space for guests or staff. An old Norwegian house built in 1903, serves as a guesthouse on the property, about 3500 squire feet, with six double rooms with private bath, kitchen and general dining and sitting area. Two cottages belong to the Guesthouse as well, each with one bedroom, sitting area, small kitchen, bathroom and loft.
On the property is also a older farmhouse, 4 bedroom house built in 1967. It has been used by the guesthouse proprietor and his family for the past few years
The weather on Lambafell is milder than on the rest of the Iceland. Spring comes a month earlier and the fall a month later. Average winter is about 2°C, yes +; gets windy at times, however snow is seldom more than for a day or two. We are on the ocean so we have rain and mild weather, the river floods easily and it is magnificent to watch nature. Iceland is also known for days of clear cool dry skies during winter time and early spring. Do not forget the beautiful Northern Lights. Summer is seldom above 20°C with average on the south coast close to 15°C. We have the longest daylight up there you can find in Europe. Every season is my favorite in Iceland. The nation is a cultural mix of Europe and North America, perhaps the Canadians are most similar to us. Everybody speaks English even though the native tongue is Icelandic. Standard of living is high and we follow the rules of EU more closely than the EU counties. We have a special agreement with EU in common with Norway, EEA, and we are part of the EU passport system, Schengen.
The property has multiple possibilities for use. This location comprises a unique venue for corporate and private retreat. Spa hotel has been considered as nature is unique and there is ample hot water available belonging to the farm. Preliminary design has been done for a Spa hotel. The property allows for several cottages on the farm, both in front of the mountain as well as north of the mountain. The community has been very positive towards developing the property.
