We have a large “dar” investment property for sale in the ancient historical town of Fes within the walls of the world’s best-preserved medieval medina.
The centuries old property was once a private school during the time of French colonisation giving an idea of its size. Its use as a school has not changed its status as a large “dar” or house with a roof garden benefiting from a spectacular view of the old medina.

The dar also benefits from a fountain with a well, its source originating from the famous Fes spring supplying the whole medina.

The property is situated off the main street from Boujloud to the Qaroiyine Mosque in the heart of the Medina and is known as Talaa Kebira House, Chrablyiine and is frequently visited by guides with tourist groups due to its historical reputation, preservation and imposing style. It is reached via a small alleyway and the large original carved entrance door leads to a passageway containing a spring. This opens out into the imposing centre of the house.
The ground floor has three large living rooms off the centre of the house all with original carved wooden shutter type doors. Each room has a further small room off and storage space above. There is a further large open space off the centre of the house containing a magnificent original fountain and well which provides a focal point. The ground floor has a kitchen and toilet and the stairs leading from the centre of the house open onto a walkway surrounding the first floor with four large living rooms all with windows to the centre of the house and two with smaller rooms off containing a water supply. Stairs from this floor lead to the roof of the house with unique original chimney, a storage room and a magnificent view of the medina.
The Talaa Kebira House is a unique investment property in need of renovation but suffering only from what one may describe as “benign neglect” the restoration of this property will preserve an important historical house in the Medina of Fes. It should be noted that there is a restoration grant available funded through a loan to Fes by the World Bank through which those restoring a traditional house in the medina are able to receive 30% of the cost of renovation.
